China has rich natural resources. Few countries boast such majestic and intriguing landscape as China, thanks to the infinite generosity and exhaustless bounty on the part of Mother Nature. Guilin"s South China Karst

South China Karst:  China is one of the countries in the world with largest carbonate rock occurred, and it is in south China that the most typical and diverse karst landforms developed.

Form different perspectives, the karst areas comprehensively reflect the unique natural features of the South China Karst terrain, highlighting its special and representative karst landforms, karst ecosystem and biodiversity, and exceptional natural beauty.South China Karst is the title of the serial application for the World Natural Heritage by Chinese Government. The nominated property (Phase 1) comprises three areas of Chongqing Wulong Karst (gorge), Guizhou Libo Karst (cone) and Yunnan Shilin Karst (pinnacle). The total area of the three sites covers core area of 476 sq.km. and the buffer zones of 984 sq.km.

Guilin"s most renowned feature is its dramatic karst terrain. "China in general and the Guilin area specifically boasts some of the most spectacular karst topography in the world," says Ray Beiersdorfer, a geologist at Youngstown State University in Ohio. Rising sharply at odd angles, limestone peaks look like giant teeth growing out of the green plain. Karst topography is characterized by many caverns and sinkholes that form as groundwater or rainwater dissolve limestone and other carbonate rocks. Florida and Virginia"s Shenandoah Valley are good examples of where karst can be found in the United States. However, the topography looks completely different from that in China, thanks to conditions that exposed China"s softer limestone and eroded it more quickly.

The Longji terraced fields

The Longji terraced fields is a fascinating scenic spot for tourist. Being one of the 12 top class scenic spots in Guangxi Province, the fields has a history of 600 years, which were first constracted in yuan dynasty and completed in early qing dynasty. These fields are result of hundreds of years wise management and hard work. The shinning terraces lace the mountain slopes like silver ribbons in spring. And summer breezes ripple the surface of the paddies in great waves. In fall layers of yellow crops make golden pagodas, and in winter hosts white snow dragons are said to make the terraces their home. The fields have combined magnificence and elegance, and form some of the finest scenery in China.
