With a long history and culture, China is a treasure place of medical and pharmacological science. Acupuncture therapy is one of the most brilliant achievements of the traditional Chinese medicine. For thousands of years the Chinese have used tiny acupuncture needles and branches of fragrant moxa to cure diseases by applying them to specific body parts.
Acupuncture is a sophisticated system of energy medicine that is over 3000 years old. The origin of acupuncture is unknown. Many scholars believe acupuncture evolved during the Stone Age in Central Asia. The earliest complete text on acupuncture is the "Huang Di Nei Jing" (The Yellow Emperor Classic of Internal Medicine) written during 474-221 BC. This appears to be a compilation of all acupuncture knowledge to that time and is still the basis for modern acupuncture.
Acupuncture therapy refers to combination of acupuncture and moxibustion and it has a long history of clinical applications. Moxibustion is the procedure making use of a moxa cone which is ignited to place cutaneously on certain point and on specific illness-related body parts.
Acupuncture therapy is clinically suitable for a wide range of indications, some diseases hardly cured by modern medicine are effective by acupuncture. Of this therapy, it is highly appreciated not only for its effect, but also for its being safe and easy in operation, devoid of trouble in medication and injection, and avoids the side-effects which some other drugs may bring about. Acupuncture increasingly becoming popular is also due to its fundamental mechanism of regulating human body"s self defensive system which enables body to re-establish harmony quickly.
